Did you know that Bro Radio is a Community Interest Company providing volunteering opportunities to local people in the Vale of Glamorgan?

All volunteers who join Bro Radio receive quality training, from professional, experienced personnel in journalism, presenting, production, or whatever area of radio broadcasting interests them. This training has enabled many of our volunteers to move onto paid employment at other radio stations and media outlets.

Current voluntary roles:

Role Title: Drivetime Presenter

Estimated Hours: 3 hours, 5 days a week (Monday – Friday, 4pm – 7pm)

Location: Based at the media centre at Barry YMCA Hub in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan

Reporting to: Operations Manager

Main Purpose of role:

Drivetime is one of the key programmes in every radio stations output and is largely broadcast live. We’re looking for the right person to create a engaging, entertaining, local and informative programme that makes Bro Radio stand out from the crowd in the timeslot.

This role isn’t for everyone. It’s hard work but great fun and highly rewarding!

Applicants interested in this programme will need to provide a demo* and programme plan.

*Applicants can make use of Bro Radio’s studios to record & produce a demo. Full training will be provided.


Role Title: On Air presenter

Estimated Hours: 2 – 5 per week

Location: Based at the media centre at Barry YMCA Hub in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan

Reporting to: Operations Manager

Main Purpose of role:

Volunteer presenters are provided with the training to host a variety of radio shows every day. Alongside the opportunity to cover daytime programming, on air presenters are given the opportunity to present specialist programmes during the evenings and weekend which reflect their and the local areas musical interests.

We’re keen to speak to local people interested in hosting Jazz, Hip-Hop, RnB & Welsh Language programmes, as well as hearing from people with new programme ideas which do not currently feature on the Bro Radio schedule.


Role Title: News presenter

Estimated Hours: 3 – 6 per week

Location: Based at the media centre at Barry YMCA Hub in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan

Reporting to: Operations Manager

Main Purpose of role:

Volunteer news presenters are provided with the training to research, develop and record locally relevant news items to be broadcast on air at the station.

News is a vital part of Bro Radio’s output, with the station being the number one source for local news within the Vale of Glamorgan. News reporters will be expected to source reliable news stories without help, although all previous training will be provided.


Role Title: Researcher/Producer

Estimated Hours: 1 – 6 per week

Location: Based at the media centre at Barry YMCA Hub in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan

Reporting to: Operations Manager

Main Purpose of role:

This role will see you work alongside our on air presenters, supporting them in sourcing locally relevant content and guests for our shows.

Tasks includes storing and finding information, answering and making phone calls, greeting visitors, creating and managing written communications, interview preparation and other day to day tasks.
