A record number of young people across the Vale voted for their fifth Youth Mayor to represent the county for the next year.
The elections took place from Monday 15 October – Friday 19 October during Local Democracy Week.
The aim of the election is to make young people more aware of their local council and encouraging them to have a say about their local communities.
Ben Lloyd from Cowbridge Comprehensive was elected this year’s Youth Mayor and Nikita Harrhy, a pupil at St Cyres is this year’s Deputy Youth Mayor.
The announcement was made by Cllr John Thomas, Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, followed by Cllr Bob Penrose and Vale Mayor, Cllr Leighton Rowlands.
Vale of Glamorgan Mayor Councillor Leighton Rowlands said:
“Well done to all the candidates for standing. It is not easy standing in an election, especially as a young person. I look forward to working with Ben and Nikita during my term of office, and look forward to their new fresh ideas”.
