Barry Town Council & Local Traders urge residents to Shop Local

Saturday 16th March is ‘High Street Saturday’, a campaign which aims to celebrate and support high streets across the whole of the UK and acknowledge high streets at the heart of their local communities.

The Barry Town Council Shop Local Committee have been working with local traders since it was formed in 2016 to help promote the shopping areas throughout the town. The maps have been produced within the Shop Local Committee and funded through the Shop local Budget.

The map will be making its way to the various tourist information points, local businesses, cafes & hotels across the town to inform and aims to  encourage both local residents and visitors to support their local high street.

Barry Town Council Officer, Robyn Walsh, Fay Blakely of Homemade Wales and Dave Elliot of TL Computer Systems.

Robyn Walsh, Barry Town Council Community Development Officer & Lead Officer of the Shop Local Committee said, “the Map has been produced in collaboration with the Traders across the town – Holton Road, Park Crescent, High Street and Vere Street. We hope that it will remind residents of the great local shopping destinations, whilst informing visitors of what the town has to offer.”

Fay Blakeley of Homemade Wales in High Street said, “the town has various and varied shopping areas and we hope that the map informs visitors and residents, whilst encouraging them to support their local shopping area.”
