Barry Town United Match postponed due to fire at Jenner Park

BY: Nathan Spackman

Barry Town Uniteds Saturday night fixture against Bala Town was abandoned after a fire in the floodlight control box at Jenner Park.

The fire broke out minutes after Bala Towns Steven Tames scored to take them 1 - 0 up.

It comes after a similar fire broke out in the same control box just before Christmas when Barry faced Aberswyth at the ground.

On Saturday (9th) the Referee and Officials took the decision to postpone the match, with a rearranged date to be announced in due course.

In a statement on the Barry Town United Facebook page the club said:

"The situation was regrettably beyond our control, but the safety of all involved, as well as our spectators, had to take priority."

"We deeply regret the inconvenience caused to all who attended tonight, particularly our visitors from Bala Town and Sgorio who have long journeys ahead of them back to north Wales."

"We extend our thanks to the fire team who attended the scene."

"Sadly, the best of of action was deemed to abandon the match."
