Cat given Macaulay Culkin nickname after ‘Home Alone’ rescue in Cardiff

A cat who broke into an uninhabited Cardiff property has been rescued by the RSPCA – and nicknamed after the star of the Home Alone movies!

The animal welfare charity were contacted after the cat was found to have accidentally made his way into the empty Cardiff property, on Stafford Road in the Grangetown area of the city.

Neighbours noticed the feline through upstairs windows at the property. It is unclear how the cat came to be trapped.

A lack of faeces or urine found at the property indicates the feline had not eaten or consumed fluid for some while.

RSPCA Cymru has now launched a search for the owner of the tabby unneutered male cat. Charity staff hope the adventurous moggy can be returned safely home. He is not microchipped and was not wearing a collar.

The cat, unfortunately, is very skinny and is now recovering in RSPCA care. Anyone with information about who owns the cat, or where the cat may have come from, is urged to contact the RSPCA’s inspectorate appeal line.

RSPCA inspector Gemma Black said: “Neighbours spotted this tabby cat through an upstairs window – but knew the property was uninhabited.

“It is not clear how the cat became trapped in a locked house but this poor tabby got trapped in a section of the home, and had clearly not eaten or drank fluid for some while.

“We’re grateful to the keyholder for cooperating with us, which ensured we were able to rescue this poor, skinny cat, who is now recovering with veterinary attention.

“The cat has affectionately been nicknamed Kevin – inspired by Macaulay Culkin’s character in the Home Alone films. Certainly, this moggy was home alone – but thankfully we were able to come to his aid.

“We are desperate to return this cat to their owner. This tabby cat is thought to be aged between three and four, and is very affectionate and sweet – so we are very sure there will be an owner somewhere missing him. Anyone with any information is urged to contact our inspectorate appeal line on 0300 123 8018.”
