Council takes action against traveller occupation of Cowbridge Common

The Vale of Glamorgan Council has taken swift action following the unauthorised occupation of the Cowbridge Common by Travellers.

The group entered the area on Sunday evening and they have since been advised by Council officers that their stay is unauthorised, unlawful and will not be tolerated.

The police are aware and the Council’s legal team is currently progressing to remove the current occupiers. The Travellers have been given 24 hours’ notice to leave and if they do not comply with the notice, the Council will seek to progress legal action a matter of urgency.

Cllr John Thomas, Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council said: “The occupation of common land in this way is completely unacceptable as the area is not intended for this purpose.

“We are taking this matter extremely seriously and are doing everything possible to ensure the situation can be resolved as quickly as possible.”
