Council teams up with local volunteers to make every child’s Christmas special

The Big Wrap is working with the Vale of Glamorgan Council to provide gifts to disadvantaged children across the county.

Last year, over 2000 gifts were provided to 350 young people at risk of receiving nothing or very little at Christmas.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Community Investment Team is one of several partners supporting this year’s appeal. Run by volunteers, The Big Wrap relies entirely on donations from local organisations and members of the public.

Based at the Restore furniture shop on Barry’s Thompson Street, the appeal supports children from birth to 19 years old and is welcoming donations from across the Vale.

The team are happy to receive toys, new and unwrapped, and gift tokens or financial donations. This year’s wish list includes board games, doll sets, train sets and toiletry sets for teenage boys.

If you can spare a little extra money this festive period, why not add an extra gift to your Christmas shopping basket and donate to The Big Wrap?

The team will be at their pop-up store on Thompson Street from Tuesday – Saturday, between 10:00am-5:00pm, until 12 December.

Susan Lloyd-Selby, who volunteers for The Big Wrap, said: “Last year, it was great to see the community spirit on show in and around Barry, as residents’ generous support meant that we were able to provide children – who might not have received anything at Christmas – with a gift.

“We’d be very grateful if this support could continue again this year, and look forward to meeting members of the public in our new pop-up on Thompson Street.”

If you would prefer to donate money, cheques can be made payable to ‘The Big Wrap’ and can be sent to Coastlands Church, Tennyson Road, Colcot, Barry CF62 9TN.
