Davies pays visit to National Coastwatch Institution

South Wales Central AM Andrew RT Davies recently visited the National Coastwatch Institution in Barry, to meet Station Manager Nick Rogers.

The lookout station and watchtower is based at Nells Point on Barry Island, and has a visitor centre which is open every Sunday throughout the summer months.

All commercial bound traffic bound for Barry, Cardiff and Bristol pass the station, which manned solely by volunteers.

The station relies on donations to fund its work, and is one of 54 stations across the UK that assists in the protection and preservation of life at sea.

Mr Davies said, “It was a pleasure to visit the NCI station on Barry Island, and meet Nick and his team of volunteers.

“They have a fantastic visitor centre that is open every Sunday throughout the summer, and I’d definitely recommend paying a visit

“All of their work is voluntary and funded by charitable donations, and I’d urge you to support the vital service they provide.”
