Dinas Powys remembers its Village Heroes

Dinas Powys and Michaelston-le-pit are marking the centenary of Armistice Day with events to remember local residents who gave their lives in the two World Wars.

“Our Village Heroes”, pen pictures of some residents who died during the conflicts, are on display at “Head to Head” in the village centre and in the porch of St Michael and All Angels Church in Michaelston-le-pit.

The ‘Silent Soldier,’ sponsored by Dinas Powys Community Council, is beside the war memorial on the Twyn.  A cascade of knitted poppies, made Dinas Powys WI, and painted pebbles with the names of the fallen, made by local children (DP Rocks) are there.  Wooden crosses will be placed in the stone trough next to the war memorial.

A new book, “Our Village Heroes”, about those from Dinas Powys and Michaelston-le-pit who died in both World Wars can be purchased from The Parish Hall, The DPVC Office, and Griffin Book in Penarth. All proceeds will be donated to the Royal British Legion and DPVC.
An audio visual presentation based on the book, “Our Village Heroes,” takes place at Murchfield Community Centre, on Saturday 27 October.

Doors open at 6.30, with tickets available at £5, from the DPVC Office and the Parish Hall.

All proceeds to the Royal British Legion and DPVC.
