Bro Radio has announced the finalists of its Community Awards sponsored by Wessex Garages Nissan.
The event which was created to celebrate outstanding individuals, groups and organisations within the local community the station serves, will take place the day before Bro Radio celebrates ten years on air in the Vale of Glamorgan.
During the nomination process the station received hundreds of nominations across ten categories, which were shortlisted before thirty judges made up of station volunteers, sponsors and community members whittled each down to just three finalists in each category.
The announcement of the finalists was made on the Bro Radio Facebook page on Monday (21st) evening at 7pm by Bro Radio Drivetime presenter Patrick Downes.
As part of the announcement the station revealed that it would also recognise Cath Watkins and her work running The Vale Homework Club. During the nomination process over 30 nominations were received for Cath in multiple categories and after hearing that she had lost her battle with cancer before Christmas, the station decided that it needed to do something to recognise her work and dedication to the local community.
Cath’s family will be presented with a Special Recognition Award at a Black Tie Awards night on the 30th March 2019.
Operations Director Nathan Spackman said “We think ten years on air is a huge milestone and wanted to do something special to celebrate the occasion.”
“One thing that has been evident over the decade is how integral the local community is to everything that we do as a station and when the idea of holding a Community Awards event came about, we knew it was the right decision.”
“We were overwhelmed by the number of nomination received and cannot wait to celebrate the amazing community which we serve”
Bro Radio’s Community Awards takes place on the 30th March at the Memo Arts Centre in Barry. Tickets for the event are available at www.broradio.fm/communityawards
