To celebrate Welsh Language Music Day it was confirmed that Gŵyl Fach y Fro will return once again this year to Barry Island, on Saturday June 16th, and today the organisers are proud to announce the full line-up for Gŵyl Fach y Fro 2018. This annual Welsh festival was established by Menter Bro Morgannwg in 2015, to celebrate and raise the profile of the Welsh language in the Vale.S3Performing on the main stage of Gŵyl Fach y Fro this year are Candelas, Geraint Lovgreen a’r Enw Da, Alys Williams a’r Band, Al Lewis, Mabli Tudur a’r Band and Fleur de Lys. Hundreds of pupils from the Vale’s Welsh-medium schools will also take to the stage to perform during the day, which is presented by DJs Bethan Elfyn and Gareth Potter.
There will also be stalls selling local Welsh produce and gifts, a play area, bubble bikes, circus skills, glitter salon, street performances, workshops and various activities organised by Welsh language partners in the Vale including Learn Welsh the Vale, Welsh for Kids, Mudiad Meithrin and the Urdd Sport Department.
Cavavan and “Myfanwy” the Tin Can Filly will be serving a variety of spirits, wines, cocktails as well as local ales and cider, and food will be served by Grazing Shed, Ffwrnes, Meat and Greek and Bay 5.
An important element of Gŵyl Fach y Fro is the fact that entry is free, in this unique, public and popular location on Barry Island, which makes the event completely accessible to all; Welsh speakers, Welsh learners, or those who wish to experience the Welsh language and its culture for the first time. It all kicks off at 11am and finishes at 7pm.
The event is held thanks for support from the Welsh Government, the Vale of Glamorgan Council, Wales Arts Council and the Big Lottery Fund.
