Plans for a new gym and flats to replace a long-vacant garage site in Penarth look set to get the go-ahead.
The gym and 12 flats would be set up on the site of the former Robert Smith Garage in Windsor Road if Vale Council approves it this week.
The developer, Pure Commercial Finance, would re-clad and extend the building to accommodate a 700-square metre gym, four one-bed and eight two-bed apartments, and 12 parking spaces in the basement.
The council has received six objections to the scheme, on the grounds that no affordable housing will be provided, inadequate parking provision, increased traffic congestion and that a gym or extra housing are not needed in Penarth.
However, the Vale Council’s planning committee has been advised to permit the scheme, on the condition the developer provides a contribution of £24,264 towards off-site affordable housing, and the work is done within two years.
The planning committee meet on Thursday, June 7 at 4pm.
