Incinerator decision “expected” by end of month

A decision on whether an Environmental Impact Assessment will be carried out on the incinerator at Barry Docks should be made by the end of this month – it has been confirmed.

South Wales Central AM Andrew RT Davies raised the issue with First Minister Carwyn Jones in the Senedd on Tuesday 6th November – who said he expected it would take place “shortly”.

In a letter to Mr Davies – he has now confirmed he anticipates a decision will be made by “the end of November 2018” – saying that representations made by the Docks Incinerator Action Group (DIAG) will be taken into account.

Mr Davies said, “It has now been over 8 months since the Minister initially announced she was minded to insist an EIA was carried out on the incinerator – but as yet no decision has been taken.

“I therefore welcome the First Minister’s confirmation that he expects this will now be made by the end of the month – providing certainty for residents.

“It is vital this decision is made in favour of an EIA – and the Welsh Government do not backtrack on previous assurances made to local campaigners.”
