BOXING champion Lee Selby has thrown his support behind a Safety Awareness Family Fun Event taking place in Barry later this month.
It is being organised by Flying Start, a programme delivered in partnership between Vale of Glamorgan Council and Welsh Government.
The event runs from 10am to 2pm on Tuesday, May 30 at King’s Square and IBF featherweight belt holder Selby will be there from around noon when a host of organisations, including South Wales Fire Service, Wales AIR Ambulance and the Coastguard will promote safety messages, presented in a fun, imaginative and engaging way. Bro Radio’s own, Geoff Selby will also be live on air from the event between 10am & 12pm.
Families are encouraged to attend the event, organised to promote Child Safety Week and help parents to take small steps to safer lives for them and their children.
“I’m really looking forward to attending this event,” said Selby. “Improving safety in our everyday lives is something we can all benefit from and teaching children about safety is a really important lesson. Hopefully I can pick up a few tips!”
Child Safety week is the Child Accident Prevention Trust’s community education campaign which encourages organisations like Flying Start to raise awareness of serious childhood accidents, offering advice and simple steps that can prevent this.
The key message is that the steps to safety are small but by taking them families can make a big difference to children’s lives.
Funded by Welsh Government, the Flying Start team in Barry are working together with families to produce positive outcomes for young children.
