Local community welcomes tree tents decision

South Wales Central AM Andrew RT Davies has welcomed the news that the Planning Inspectorate has refused to allow permission for a “glamping” site at Woodside Hamlet, Llantwit Major.

The Vale of Glamorgan Planning Committee initially rejected the plans, but the applicants decided to launch an appeal.

Mr Davies wrote to the Planning Inspectorate urging them to uphold the initial decision, on the basis the plans would have severe ecological impacts, there was insufficient access or parking on site and the adverse impacts it would have on residential amenity.

Mr Davies said, “These plans would have been deeply destructive, causing the removal of several trees and destroyed the habitats of many species.

“On top of that, there were serious logistical issues, with insufficient parking or access, and the proposals were clearly unneighbourly.

“I contacted the Planning Inspectorate and asking that the appeal be rejected, and I am pleased that it has been.

“I would like to pay tribute to the residents and councillors, particularly Cllr Gordon Wilkie, who worked incredibly hard to organise the campaign.

“I hope this now draws a line under the matter and puts a stop to the plans once and for all.”
