Partnership event provides help and advice on raising and health and safety standards

Shared Regulatory Services (SRS) recently hosted a ‘Business Engagement’ Event for businesses operating on Bridgend Industrial Estates to help raise health and safety standards.

In line with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) ‘Helping Great Britain Work Well’ Strategy, SRS in partnership with HSE, Public Health Wales (PHW) and local businesses facilitated this event to provide simple, accessible and relevant advice to local business.

The purpose of the event, held at the Heronston Hotel in Bridgend, was to enable and empower businesses to make informed decisions on a proportionate and cost effective approach to risk management. This makes good business sense and encourages greater ownership of health and safety by employees and business owners.

Cllr Dhanisha Patel, Chair of the Joint Committee for Shared Regulatory Services, said: “Managing the health and wellbeing of workers improves organisational performance and reduces the cost of ill health and absence, which last year cost the Welsh economy £500 million. BEEP ‘Bridgend Employers Engagement Project’ is a local collaboration to support by local businesses effectively manage a safe, healthy and more prosperous workplace in line with HSE’s strategy ‘Helping Great Britain Work Well.”

“The training focused on supporting and enabling businesses to manage health, safety and well-being risks more effectively through a series of presentations, small workshops and a range of stands where delegates had the opportunity to discuss issues directly with officers in an informal setting. The event was very well received by attendees and a credit to all SRS staff involved in the event.”
