Police confirm sudden death of man taking part in Barry Island Triathlon

South Wales Police have confirmed the sudden death of a man on Barry Island today (Sunday 3rd June).

Police were called to assist with a medical emergency at Whitmore Beach, Barry Island, shortly after 7.30am.

A 43-year-old man, who was taking part in a triathlon event, is believed to have suffered a cardiac arrest.

CPR was carried out by colleagues from the ambulance service, lifeguards, the Coastguard and RNLI, but the man was declared deceased shortly afterwards.

His next of kin have been informed.

  1. Was at this event and witnessed the work of all emergency services & event staff…. very sad to hear the news but credit to all services who worked tirelessly & professionally… thoughts with the family!!
