Porthkerry Country Park presented volunteer pick sets worth £500 from Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water.

Alison Palmer of Porthkerry Wildlife Group recently presented the park with several Volunteer litter pick sets thanks to a grant of £500 from Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water.

The litter pick sets will be used by Porthkerry Wildlife Group, Porthkerry Conservation volunteers, and the large variety of volunteers and groups that currently carry out litter picks on the beach, in streams and throughout the park, in partnership with the ranger service.

The litter sets will also be incorporated into the rangers environmental education service for local schools, with the introduction of a Seaside Safari activity looking at the effects of plastic and litter on wildlife of the sea.

Mel Stewart, site ranger said “ We are also planning on putting out a new board, similar to the #2minutebeachclean board at Barry Island, to encourage visitors to help keep all areas of the park free from litter.”

Keep an eye out for the new board and litter pickers on your next visit to Porthkerry!
