Barry’s newest takeaway restaurant has officially opened.
The Sausage Revolution, which is the brainchild of Hot Diggidy Dog Creator Simon Llewellyn was officially opened on Saturday (27th January), by Barry champion boxers Lee and Andrew Selby.
The Sausage Revolution, which is located Atlantic Trading Estate across the road from The Hot Diggidy Factory has been open for a month in a bedding in basis, receiving great feedback from local people.
At the official opening, Simon Llewellyn told Bro Radio “The reaction has been absolutely fabulous, I couldn’t have asked for it better. It’s a revolution. Lots of people are doing burgers, chicken, and pizzas, I don’t know why they’re not doing sausages cos these things are gorgeous.”
On having Lee and Andrew open The Sausage Revolution Simon said “I really appreciate the guys coming down. They are icons of Barry, World Champion Boxers and its fab they can take a bit of time out, bring their kids along and that’s the experience we want to create.”
During the bedding in period, there have been waits of up to 10-minutes for food due to the units currently small kitchen. This has led to plans to double the size of the kitchen and restaurant area.
Simon told Bro Radio “Due to the success during the bedding in period, we’ve managed to acquire the whole building so the Hot Diggidy Dog Factory will be moving upstairs and the restaurant will be expanding into the other half which is derelict.”
“That’ll be happening as soon as I can get hold of some cash. We currently can sit about 25 people and with the expansion, we’ll be able to cater for 70-80 customers.”
Barry Boxers Lee and Andrew Selby, who opened The Sausage Revolution took time away from their usual strict diet to sample what the restaurant had to offer.
When asked what he thought of the food, Lee said “The food is out of this world. I’m not usually one for hot dogs but I thought I’d give it a try and it was lovely.”
“I had the Hot Diablo sausage and it was beautiful. The kids enjoyed it, its a great atmosphere and its nice to support a new Barry business.”
The event was also attended by the Mayor of Barry, Councillor Nic Hodges. Cllr Hodges is involved in Barry Town Council’s Shop Local Scheme, which aims to encourage local people to support local businesses.
Cllr Hodges said “I’m a big fan of The Sausage Revolution and this is our third visit! It’s great to see that Simon has big plans for the brand and that it is starting here in Barry.”
“I particularly like the Chilli Sausage, but I’m going to try a new one today and work my way through the menu!”
The Sausage Revolution is open 7 days a week on Atlantic Trading Estate in Barry. Open from 8am – 4pm Sunday – Wednesday and 8am – 8pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
