St Athan’s lights to be switched on by local rugby star

BY: Nathan Spackman

St Athan will be switching on its Christmas lights on Sunday, December 2, with an array of family entertainment and fun hosted by Bro Radio 98.1fm.

The afternoon starts at 3pm with free funfair rides, face painters, glitter tattoos and stage entertainers (St Athan Youth Band, Total CAOS, Jeff Granger and the St Athan Primary School Choir – all hosted by Bro Radio).

In the church there will be Christmas crafts and refreshments; don’t miss the chance to see Santa in his grotto!

At 5pm, the lights will be switched on by Melissa Clay, current Wales International, Ospreys back row forward and St Athan resident.

Mel made her international debut in 2014 against England and has already notched up 22 international caps, including this season’s highly successful autumn internationals.

The Vale of Glamorgan VPod bus will also be at the event, with a range of technological activities.

Following the switch on, St Athan Church will be holding its traditional Christingle service and Jeff Grainger will be singing live in the Three Horseshoes until 7pm, when the grand prize draw will take place.

At 7.30pm, Luke Jones will entertain, followed by Claire M, who will bring the day to a rousing close with her special blend of rock and festive roll from 8pm.

Thanks go to St Athan Community Council, the Vale Council and all the supporters and sponsors.

If anyone would like to help on the day, contact event co-ordinator Alan Bourne on 0776 9977 207.
