YMCA Barry female gymnasts have had another successful competition at the Welsh Elite and National Grade Championships. These are the highest level of grading for the young gymnasts and all five gymnasts who entered performed fantastically.
National Grade 4 is the first National level Grade which has a number of very complex and demanding routines included. Three gymnasts from YMCA Barry competed, Casey Moores, Emmy Saddler and Olivia Dawkins competed against a very strong field and Emmy Saddler earning herself 6th place on Bars. After demonstrating their beautiful gymnastics, Olivia received a Pass, with Emma and Casey receiving a Commended.
In the Elite Grade category, Azaria Karim competed in Compulsory 4 and Millie Williams competed in Compulsory 3. The Elite Grade system is a programme designed to physically prepare young gymnasts with the potential to become elite gymnasts as they get older. This is an extremely challenging competition, with both gymnasts compseting at an exceptional level.
In Elite Level 4 eight year old Azaria claimed 4th on Vault, 2nd Beam, 6th on Floor and with all the scores combined 4th Overall. In Elite Level 3 nine year old Millie received 4th on Vault, 3rd on Beam, 2nd on Floor, 1st on Range & Conditioning and with all the scores combined, 2nd Overall. Due to Azaria and Millie’s performances, both girls qualified to represent Wales in the British Elite Grade Championships in May. A fantastic achievement for the girls and YMCA Barry.
Following on from the competition, Millie Williams travelled straight to Lilleshall, British Gymnastics National Centre for her first British Performance Pathway Squad. Millie gained her place in British Squad due to her fantastic performances in 2018 where she was spotted as one of the top British Gymnasts for her age. Millie had a brilliant first training session where she trained with the top gymnasts of her age, as well as the British National coaches.
