UK Airport Safety week launches at Cardiff Airport

Cardiff Airport has launched its third ‘UK Airports Safety Week’ in conjunction with the Airport Operators Association (AOA).

The airport-led initiative, which runs until 20th May will take place across over 50 UK airports and aims to promote and demonstrate the importance of safety to the airport team, visitors and customers alike.

From tours of Air Traffic Control with NATS, to learning CPR and defibrillation skills delivered by Welsh Hearts and St. John’s Cymru, there is an opportunity to take part in a range of fun and educational activities over the duration of the week. Passengers are able to engage with a number of stands in the airport: Malpeet K9 Academy will be discussing the role of dogs in airport security, and Officers from the Airport Policing Group, Joint Firearms Unit and Neighbourhood Policing Team will be promoting Safer Travel, Airport Watch and Saving the High Spirits Campaign.

Staff are able to join in with many activities, including the pushback of an aircraft, a live aircraft fuelling demonstration, and there will even be a yoga and meditation session for staff to try during lunch to promote staff wellbeing.

Cardiff Airport’s Head of Airfield Operations, Russell Clements, officially launched the week’s events on Monday morning:

“It is a pleasure to support the AOA’s UK Airports Safety Week for the third year running, building on the success of the last two years. Safety and security is our number one priority at Cardiff Airport and we are focused on building a strong safety culture. Each member of the team plays a key role in understanding and implementing measures that affect our delivery of safety and security.”

“There’s a wealth of activities taking place around the airport for both staff, passengers and our visiting school. The week provides a brilliant opportunity to engage with the airport through an interactive schedule that displays how much goes into running Cardiff Airport and keeping staff and passengers safe. So, do get involved, and have some fun!”
