Nine schools in the Vale of Glamorgan have come together to start a blog to share their latest news with pupils, parents and the wider community.
VOGBLOG, was designed and named by pupils at a workshop held at the Civic Offices in July. During the workshop pupils also had the opportunity to pick up top tips on writing news articles from the Council’s communications team.
The idea behind the blog was to give pupils a platform to share news stories, events, accolades, sporting achievements and more with their schools and wider community. The shared blog will also allow collaboration between a number of schools in the Vale.
It will also provide pupils with an interest in the media or a career in journalism with an opportunity to improve their skills from a young age and build a portfolio of their work.
Over the summer, officers in the Education department have worked to develop the blog, meeting pupils design preferences, ready to launch the blog in the autumn term.
Cllr Bob Penrose, Cabinet Member for Education said: “I think it’s an excellent idea for pupils to be able to write and share news articles on behalf of their school.
“I hope more schools get involved with VOGBLOG. Writing and developing a blog is a key skill for pupil’s to develop and will help them in their careers beyond their school days.”
