Council run Sport Academy offers places for 10 young Sports people

Ten high performance sportspeople living in the Vale of Glamorgan are invited to apply for the 2018 Sports Academy scheme to help pursue their sporting ambitions.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council in partnership with Legacy Leisure, is offering people the opportunity to access leisure facilities to help their training programmes

The Sports Academy scheme is aimed at individuals who have achieved at least Welsh squad status and represented their country in their sport in the previous year, and who will be in a position to achieve further international honours in 2018.

Cllr Kemp, Cabinet Member for Social Care, Health and Leisure said: “The Vale of Glamorgan Council is delighted to be able to support young people in their pursuit of their sporting ambitions in partnership with Legacy Leisure. We have seen Sports Academy members achieve impressive results in their respective sports and I would encourage applications from our Vale sports performers to become part of this exciting scheme”.

Applicants must participate in a sport that is recognised by Sport Wales and be affiliated to the appropriately recognised National Governing Body of Sport. All applicants will be required to obtain endorsement from their National Governing Body prior to submitting their application.

The 2018 scheme will start on 1 January 2018, and it is likely that there will be high demand for spaces.

To become a member of the Sports Academy, contact the Vale Council’s Sports & Play Development Team on 01446 704793 or e-mail KJDavies@valeofglamorgan.gov.uk

The deadline for applications is 11th December 2017.
