Ysgol Y Deri pupils record Christmas track in memory of Learning Support Assistant

Pupils from Ysgol Y Deri in Penarth have recorded a Christmas track to raised money for #initwithyoumitchell charity, in memory of Emma Rees, a Learing Support Assistant who suddently passed away over the summer holidays.

The song, ‘Little Baby in the Hay’ was written by Darren Fellows over the half term holidays especially for pupils at Ysgol Y Deri, with the song said to be in a sense, a traditional Christmas carol with more of a modern twist.

Darren Fellows told Bro Radio, “In my mind I could hear the children singing the title words and I thought that writing a sweet carol full of charm would sound wonderful with their voices.”

It was decided to record the song in the recording studio at YYD and that proceeds from the sale of the carol would go to the #initwithyoumitchell charity.

The pupils has less than three weeks to learn the words and melody before heading into the studio and with the help of studio techichian Chris Events the pupils vocals were carefully recorded and mixed to create the final track.

Sixth form pupils at the school have taken charge of the marketing campaign and designed posters to advertise the Christmas song, one of these illustrations became the artwork for the cover of the single.

‘Little Baby in the Hay’ was released as a digital download on ‘cdbaby’ (www.store.cdbaby.com) and can be bought for £2.00 ($2.55). All proceeds are in aid of the #initwithyoumitchell charity.
