Phil Bugler

About you:

I retired two years ago after 33 years in Local Government, and joined to Bro team just after, in September 2016.  I am married and live in Barry with my wife Lorraine and our two dogs and two cats.  I enjoy video games, movies and poker and I am a huge Leeds United fan.  I have a very varied music collection ranging from heavy rock (eg KISS, AC/DC) to Ed Sheeran and Adele.  I also have my own online music blog.

About your show:

I am co-presenter with Gareth Long and in my hour of the show, I have my trivia question, Something Old, New, Borrowed & Blue where I play four tracks relevant to these categories,  and also three tracks from artists who are celebrating birthdays on the day of the show (or nearby).  On the first Tuesday of the month, I dedicate the whole hour to just One Hit Wonders, where every track I play is from an act who had just the one UK hit single

What is your favourite place in the Vale & why?:

Apart from being home with my wife and animals, and, obviously, the Bro Radio studio, I would have to say Barry Island on a sunny day, a great place to enjoy the weather with a walk along the prom, eating fish & chips or ice cream and generally just enjoying the fresh air

What are your top three favourite songs?:

  1. Ultravox – Vienna;
  2. The Killers – Mr Brightside
  3. My Chemical Romance – Welcome To The Black Parade

Why do you volunteer for Bro Radio?:

It’s a no-brainer, I get to sit in a studio once a week, and get to listen to and play great songs for the listeners.  Best of all though, is finding sings you had long forgotten about so that when you play them, they stir up memories of when or where you last heard them.  I hope the listeners feel the same too

What do you love about being part of the Bro Radio Team/being on air?:

As above, also the great support from the other presenters and admin staff, I always feel confident that I can put any ideas/suggestions forward and they will be listened to.  Also, the fact that we are on in the evenings, we are pretty much allowed to pick our own music to play
