Dinas Powys Community Council received an anonymous donation of £10,000 to their flood relief appeal which will go towards those affected by the flooding on the 23rd December 2020.
The news of the donation was shared on the Dinas Powys Community Matters page on Facebook where Chair of the Council, Richard Grigg expressed his gratitude to the anonymous donor. He said:
"This is a wonderful boost to the appeal fund. We experienced dreadful flooding on 23 December with over 100 houses seriously affected.
"So far we as a community council have allocated around £6,000, a ‘Justgiving’ appeal raised £7,000 and Dinas Powys organisations have added to the fund.
"The generosity of Dinas Powys Rotary, the Ecumenical 7 and other organisations is very heart warming.
"This made around £20,000. So this latest donation puts the figure at £30,000. The community council has now legally created the fund and the terms for grants applications. So many people have helped in financial and voluntary ways."
A member of the Dinas Powys Community Matters page said of the donation:
"This is lovely to hear thank you to everyone who has donated. Alot of homes ruined including mine so this is a relief for a lot of people thank you again."
The whole of the Vale of Glamorgan was hit by heavy flooding on the 23rd December last year, the likes of which the County has not seen for some time. Dinas Powys and Sully were among areas hit particularly badly, with numerous homes flooding just days before Christmas. Fundraising pages have been set up for both areas, with the JustGiving page for Sully, set up by Sully Village Group Chair, Hannah Bevan Mohaffel, raising just under £9,000.
