Barry: Buttrills estate to get facelift

23rd November 2021

Plans have been unveiled to give a major facelift to the Buttrills estate in Barry.

Vale of Glamorgan Council are hoping to start work on the housing estate ''in the near future'', once a contractor's been found.

Work will be carried out on the gardens of houses, bungalows and flats as well as those in communal areas.

New outdoor spaces for drying clothing and storing items will also be created and more energy efficient LED streetlighting installed in line with the council's carbon neutral pledge, as part of Project Zero.

Buttrills residents have been helping to plan the revamp, which also includes planting trees and erecting bird boxes to protect local wildlife.

It's part of a wider upgrade to keep the council's housing stock in line with Welsh housing quality standards

Cllr Margaret Wilkinson, cabinet member for housing, said: ''The work carried out on the Buttrills estate is part of a large-scale programme to bolster and improve council housing.''

''New developments have been completed at Clos Holm View and Llys Llechwedd Jenner in Barry, while there are others in the pipeline at Hayes Road and Hayeswood Road along with an older persons' apartment complex in Penarth.''

''I hope this scheme will make a real difference to residents living at the Buttrills, providing pleasant, functional outdoor spaces for them to enjoy. It should also boost local wildlife and make the area more environmentally friendly.''
