Barry school children help Food Vale to boost the Good Food Movement

Food Vale works to ensure every person in the Vale of Glamorgan has access to healthy food every day, and the information to make good choices for ourselves, our local businesses and our planet.

Food Vale is the Vale of Glamorgan’s sustainable food partnership, and sits within the Cardiff and Vale University Hospital Board. It is part of the broader Sustainable Food Places programme led by the Soil Association, Food Matters and Sustain: The Alliance For Better Food And Farming. The aim is to build up and promote a good food movement in the Vale. The team are releasing a video created in collaboration with Barry school children, introducing the public to the Food Vale Charter.

The Charter comprises a trio of key values:

  • A good meal for everyone every day
  • Thriving independent food businesses which are supported and valued
  • Think global, eat local

Video:

The cheerful video acts as a trailer for the Charter and the Good Food Movement it promotes, and stars local children from Oak Field Primary School, Ysgol Gymraeg Gwaun Y Nant and Pencoedtre High School, urging us to eat seasonal food produced locally, reduce food waste and get involved in local food projects. The making of the video was funded by a National Lottery Awards for All grant.

Fiona Kinghorn, Executive Director of Public Health, said: “Food Vale is a hugely positive collaborative initiative encouraging our population to eat well and support local businesses in the process. We were delighted by the enthusiasm of the pupils who helped to create our video and look forward to it raising awareness of the Good Food Movement, which links into our Move More, Eat Well initiative. It is important in the Vale as a county with a thriving food economy, growing and turning fresh produce into delicious, healthy meals.”
