Following the success of the “Barry Youth Action” project, Barry Town Council are looking to create a youth council for the town, stating in a post on social media that “Young people’s voices need to be heard now more than ever.”
Barry Youth Action, an award-winning partnership project between Barry Town Council and the Vale of Glamorgan Youth Service, and worked with the town council to ensure the views and ideas of young people were listened to and taken into account when decisions that affected their age group were made.
Now, in part due to the success of the aforementioned project, Barry Town Council are looking for young people, between the ages of 11 and 18, who would like to make a difference to the lives of young people living and working in the town, while also learning new skills and meeting new people. In their statement on social media, Barry Town Council said of their motivation to establish a Youth Council:
“Young people’s voices need to be heard now more than ever, especially as we begin to look towards a new “norm” post-Covid and tackle any other issues that are directly affecting young people in Barry.”
