JD Cymru Premier side, Barry Town United, have confirmed that their striker, Kayne McClaggon, will be prolonging his stay at the club having signed a contract extension.
McClaggon has been an effective and highly important player for the Vale-based club for some time now, having initially put pen to paper on a move to the Linnets back in 2017. 117 appearances and 56 goals later, the now-veteran goalscorer has re-signed for the side and will go into his fifth campaign in the yellow and blue of the town in the 2021-2022 season.
The news comes following another stellar season for the player, netting United's first European goal since 2003 against NSI Runavik and scoring 12 in total during the campaign to take home the club's golden boot. He was also named Manager's Player of the Year by Gavin Chesterfield earlier this month at the club's end-of-season awards.
Speaking of his feelings on McClaggon signing a new contract with Barry Town United, Manager, Gavin Chesterfield said:
"Kayne has been a central part to our success in recent times. He’s a local lad, which means a lot to our supporters and provides an excellent example for children in the local area who can aspire to emulate what he has done and play for their hometown club and beyond.”
Barry Town United will hope to kick on next season and truly challenge for the JD Cymru Premier title after a somewhat so-so 2020-21 season. The club, along with all the others in the league, were not helped by the stop-start nature of the campaign due to the coronavirus pandemic and should perform better in what should be a slightly more straightforward 2021-22.
