Barry Town United's 'Share a Smile' campaign has raised an impressive £8,500 which will be used to purchase gifts for children this Christmas.
The JD Cymru Premier side shared the news of the successful campaign, which launched three weeks ago, on their website and social media pages, highlighting the support of both those associated with the club and beyond.
Fundraising activities included fancy dress training sessions in the academy and ladies teams, to the first team squad donating a percentage of their wage for the cause, with the campaign itself raising just over £7,000.
The club's Chairman, Mark Barrett. and his wife Jane, generously topped up the fund by just under £1,500, taking it to a final figure of £8,500.
The money raised will be used to purchase specific Christmas gifts for children put forward by the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Social Services team.
In their online statement, the club thanked those who participated in the campaign saying:
"Thank you to everyone who has fundraised, donated, or played any part in our Share a Smile campaign. This really shows what our club can achieve when we all pull together!"
Chairman Mark Barrett commented:
“I’m a very proud chairman this evening. The club as a whole have pulled together to raise a huge amount of money. This will put smiles on so many children’s faces on Christmas Day. Thank you to everyone who has worked so hard to fundraise and to those who have donated.”
