Barry's Pukka Productions Take On Tim Minchin's Challenge

BY: Ben Dain-Smith

Pukka Productions, a theatre school and drama group based in Barry have taken on a challenge set by Comedian and West End Writer, Tim Minchin.

Minchin, who has had a varied and successful career in comedy and theatre, co-writing the West End smash-hit, "Matilda - The Musical", set a challenge for people to perform his, as yet unreleased original track, "I'll Take Lonely Tonight" during lockdown.

Pukka Productions' Lockdown Choir took on the challenge and recorded their take on Minchin's new song using only their mobile phones. The 17 strong choir uploaded their efforts to YouTube.

PUKKA was formed in 2005 with one goal – to put on a community production of Jesus Christ Superstar. Due to the success of it’s first show, they were inspired to keep going and a year later they produced a version of West Side Story.

Since then, Pukka have put on performances of: Joseph and his amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Buddy, Annie, West Side Story, Annie, Jekyll and Hyde, Sweeney Todd.
