Bro Radio, the community radio station for the Vale of Glamorgan, picked up the "Station Of The Year" award at the Community Radio Awards 2020 event, broadcast on Facebook Live, on Saturday 12th December.
The Community Radio Awards aim to recognise the work of the 300+ volunteer-led community radio stations across the UK, with 96 stations putting in nominations this year.
Prior to being announced as winners, comments the judges made about the station during the judging process were revealed, with the judges saying of Bro Radio:
"Bro Radio is a friendly and calm radio station with people who really care about the station and the area they serve."
"Professional 'sound' to the station, Excellent repetition of the brand, who you are and where you are."
"Good local and engaging content. Very impressed with the demonstrable work in the local community. A shining example of local radio at it's best"
Bro Radio was one of two Welsh stations to feature in the top three, with North Wales based Mon FM picking up Bronze in the category.
The good news didn't end there for Bro with the station also picking up a Silver award for its 2020 General Election Hustings event.
Operations Director Nathan Spackman said of the station's achievements:
"We were delighted to be nominated for this award but to win it is unbelievable.
"2020 has been a challenging year for everyone and this win is a celebration of the station and our wonderful team of volunteers, who work so hard to create brilliant local radio for the Vale of Glamorgan.
"I can't thank every member of our team, the local businesses and everyone in our community who supports the work which we do - thank you."
