The Cardiff and Vale Scouts are fundraising for new toilets at their Jubilee Campsite.
The Jubilee Campsite, located in Peterston Super-Ely was donated to the Scouts in the 1950s and has given thousands of young people a place to learn skills but unfortunately, the toilets currently in place at the site are not to modern-day standards of hygiene, a fact which has been highlighted in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Area Commissioner Julian Jordan said of the need for new toilets:
“We urgently need to replace the campsite toilets to provide basic hygiene facilities with hot water and lighting to enable Scouting to continue at Jubilee as part of the post Covid-19 response to get face to face Scouting active again. With restrictions over the past 12 months our membership of nearly 4,000 Scouts have not been able to get outdoors and enjoy the site so we want to improve the facilities and make the campsite available as soon as possible for members to enjoy the outdoors and countryside”.
The Cardiff and Vale Scouts have set up a LocalGiving page to raise the funds necessary to install new toilets at the campsite. The group are looking for a total of £20,000. So far, the fundraising page has raised just over half of their target sum with 70 days left on the fundraiser.
