The derby between Cardiff City and Swansea City, last year’s champions, has been chosen for the first broadcast on the opening weekend of the new season.

Lowri Roberts, FAW Head of Women’s and Girl’s Football, said: "We are delighted that our season will kickstart live on S4C for the first time ever, a landmark occasion for the Orchard Welsh Premier Women’s League.

"We are working closely with our media partners to increase the visibility and awareness around the women’s game which will drive further participation and investment into the fastest growing sport across Europe."

Gwennan said: "The fact that the game will be live is very exciting for the league. The profile of the women’s game has grown so much over the last few years. "You only have to look at the crowds that watch the international team to see that the interest is there. I hope the league can benefit from this added exposure in the same way."

Sue Butler, S4C Sports Commissioner, said: "S4C is a longstanding supporter of Welsh football and it is an important step in the channel’s history to be showing a live game from the top tier of Welsh women’s domestic football.

"The quality of football and level of entertainment in the Orchard Welsh Premier Women’s League is high and we’re looking forward to an entertaining game between two of the best teams in the country."

Newly promoted Cascade YC Ladies will travel to face Abergavenny Women for their opening fixture, while Cyncoed Ladies will play Cardiff Met at home and Port Talbot Ladies will welcome Aberystwyth Town Ladies at Victoria Road Stadium. Briton Ferry Llansawel will face Abergavenny at home in their opening fixture on MD2.

Due to the current pandemic, initially all matches will be played behind closed doors.
