Guess the weight of these!’...and benefit local charity, says top grower Cecil

Cecil Townsend, a well-known local gardener and highly successful competitor at Dinas Powys Village Show, will be displaying his pumpkins and giant vegetables outside the Three Horseshoes public house in Dinas Powys village centre from noon until 8 pm on Friday, September 11th, in support of Dinas Powys Voluntary Concern (DPVC).

This year’s Dinas Powys Village Show was cancelled  because of the pandemic, but this is a chance to see some of the giants that Cecil would have entered.

DPVC is a local charity that provides transport, befriending and wellbeing services for older residents in the Dinas Powys area and has been a leader in providing help to the community during the Covid-19 crisis.

Cllr John Fanshaw, and chair of DPVC, said: “The charity wishes to thank Cecil for holding, once again, this colourful annual event. The support that DPVC receives from Cecil and others in the community is greatly appreciated.”

You can enter a competition to guess the weight of the vegetables, make a donation at the display, or donate to DPVC via Facebook, or online at
