Park Crescent and Romilly Road to become one-way, as Wales & West Utilities progress gas network upgrades

Wales & West Utilities have agreed with the Vale of Glamorgan Council that a one-way system will be in place on Romilly Road and Park Crescent for seven weeks from 19th July, as gas network upgrades continue.

It comes as the energy company confirms that work is progressing well to upgrade parts of the gas network in Barry, which it says will make sure that local homes and businesses continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come.

The one-way system will be in place for a total of seven weeks between 19th July - 31st August, with local diversion route signposted locally. In a letter sent to residents, W&W confirmed that pedestrian access will be available at all times and residents will be given vehicle access where possible.

Adam Smith, Wales and West Utilities Programme controller said "While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across Barry. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it."

"This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future."

"We will work as safely and as quickly as possible to finish the work, whilst keeping inconvenience to a minimum for local people and road users. Our engineers are following all hygiene and social distancing guidelines and we would respectfully ask that you keep a 2m distance if passing our work site."

"To support communities through Coronavirus, we’re working hard to keep the gas flowing so local people are safe and warm."

The work follows 5 kilometre gas pipe upgrade project last October, which saw £650,000 worth of work undertaken by the energy company in the Barry Road and Jenner Road area of Barry.
