Residents in the Vale urged to return electoral register forms

BY: Nathan Spackman

The Vale of Glamorgan Council is reminding people across the count to check and update information that appears on the electoral register for their address.

The electoral registration team at the Vale of Glamorgan Council will be knocking on doors after more than 14,000 properties that have not responded to the forms sent our earlier this year.

The team are advising residents that they will start knocking on doors across the county from Saturday 30 September due to the lack of responses.

If members of the public do not want the team to call, then they are advised to respond to the HEF’s by sending the form by post or to reply online at

“If you’re not currently registered, your name will not appear on the form. However if you want to register, the easiest way is online at, or we’ll send you information explaining how to do this in the post. In any case, you will still need to complete the Household Enquiry Form and send it back to us.”

“Don’t forget the Household Enquiry Form is for information only – to register you must still complete an Invitation to Register form either online, via telephone or by post." - Debbie Marles, Electoral Registration Officer at the Vale of Glamorgan Council

What are the benefits of being on the Electoral Register?

  • You will have a choice of whether or not you would like to vote in a UK election or referendum.
  • Credit reference agencies can confirm your address to approve mortgage, loan, or credit applications.
  • You can be called to take part in Jury Service.

Responding to the Household Enquiry Form is easy, you can do this on-line, via telephone or by post – just follow the instructions on the front of your letter.

The electoral register lists the names and addresses of everyone who is registered to vote in public elections.

The aim of the Household Enquiry Form is to make sure that the electoral register is up to date and to identify any residents who are not registered. People are being asked to return the Household Enquiry Form straight away.
