A man accused of killing Robert Farley is due to go on trial next Spring.
Lee Whitlock was charged with the murder of the Barry grandfather, whose body was found at his home on West Walk last Friday (3rd September).
Cardiff Crown Court heard the police investigation into Mr Farley's death was still at an early stage and ''a lot of work'' was outstanding.
Whitlock (53), from Barry, spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address when he appeared in the dock on Wednesday.
He was remanded in custody by Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke until Friday 8th October, when a plea hearing is due to take place.
A provisional start date for the trial has been set for Monday 7th March 2022.
