A family in Barry has arranged around 350 socially distanced, door-stop visits from Santa Claus, for kids across the town this December.
Claire Brice and her wife Natalie, initially expected a modest reply when they put out the offer to arrange the visits from Santa with a short video on a Facebook page they set up, but were blown away by the popularity of the idea and are now fully booked, with Santa scheduled to visit around 350 children over the next two weeks.
Claire's stepdad, Anthony Thomas, will be helping to channel Santa himself, while her mum, Kath Thomas, who is a finalist for a Bro Radio Community Award, will be assisting him and assuming the elf role for the visits.
Mr Thomas is currently battling Leukemia but Claire has told us that he is "still trying to do his but for the community and the children of Barry and The Vale."
Alongside spreading Christmas cheer for children in the area, Santa and his elf will also be collecting money for the NHS's Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). Claire told us:
"We feel that children have unfortunately had their mental health suffer due to the effects of Covid 19 so thought this would be a good charity to work for. We didn’t in a million years think the idea would be so popular and we’ve added as many dates as possible to visit as many children as we can."
Claire's mum, Kath, is a keen charity activist and fundraiser, and her antics helped inspire Claire to set up these visits. She told us:
"My mum is already looking for her next fundraising event she can do to raise money and we just thought this would be perfect. The children of our town are fed up of being let down or having events cancelled due to covid 19 and we just thought spreading some Christmas joy would be perfect.
"I am really proud of my Mum & Step Dad as they always want to make a difference in some way whilst also trying to raise money for charity."
