Despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, three new businesses have opened on Penarth Esplanade, bringing a taste of Spain, luxury hot drinks and a secret escape to the seaside town.
Opened in October, on the site formerly occupied by James Sommerin, the businesses include a tapas bar, Casa De Margarita, boutique hotel, Secrets by the Sea and Baileys Experience, a luxury hot chocolate and cocktail bar.
The new ventures are headed by entrepreneur, Margaret Studt, who also owns Teddy T's and Rumba on Barry Island and Demiros in Cardiff Bay.
When asked by Bro Radio why she had decided to open a Tapas Bar on the Esplanade, Margaret said:
"How else do you follow a Michelin Star restaurant?"
"I love tapas and knew two excellent Spanish Tapas Chefs so it made perfect sense. We offer delicious, authentic Spanish Tapas on Penarth Seafront, with spectacular sea views situated right on Penarth's beautiful Victorian Esplanade."
With a local lockdown in place, many will be considering a staycation in the county to get away from it all, and above Casa De Margarita is "Secrets by the Sea", a boutique hotel overlooking Penarth Pier, which boasts sweeping views across the Bristol Channel and is accessible by a beautiful walled garden.
Located two doors up from Casa De Margarita, is the third new business, " Baileys Experience", a perfect addition to the town for the upcoming colder months and chilly winter walks, and has been created off the back of Margaret's own memories as a young girl.
"I remember my first visit to the Savoy Hotel as a young girl and not knowing what to order, I asked for a hot chocolate."
"The memory of being served luxurious steaming hot milk and Belgium hot chocolate the way The Savoy has done for 200 years has never left me."
"I wanted to bring that wonderful experience to us, here in South Wales with Baileys, melted Belgium hot chocolate & decadent liqueurs whilst overlooking Penarth's beautiful seafront."
