Hang fire Southern Kitchen, located at the Pumphouse on Hood Road, Barry, has been awarded the Best Welsh Restaurant by the "Slow Food in the UK" group.
The awards were voted for by the general public and the group's members, with the Vale-based establishment scooping the top gong for Wales.
Slow Food is a global, grassroots movement with thousands of members around the world that links the pleasure of food with a commitment to community and the environment.
Hang fire started as a Southern Style BBQ street-food stall in Cardiff, 5 years ago, and is run by Samantha Evans and Shauna Guinn who featured in 'Sam and Shauna's Big Cookout' on the BBC. Their vision was to run a small restaurant that relies solely on fresh, ethical produce - far away from the congested chain-led culinary landscape - and to create food with soul and passion.
In a post on their social media accounts, Hang fire said:
"We are hugely grateful and extremely honoured to have been awarded ‘Best Welsh Restaurant’ by Slow Food in the UK, an award voted by Slow Food Members and the ever-supportive, wonderful general public.
"Our BBC TV Show ‘Sam & Shauna’s Big Cookout’ had grassroots hyper-local food at its heart, as well as shining a light on the diversity and vibrance of Wales’ volunteer communities.
"It's so amazing to have this award lift our spirits after what has been a mind blowing year of challenges. Diolch, Slow Food Cymru. We will continue to fly the flag of ‘Good, Clean and Fair Food"
