Volunteers collect 25 bags at Llantwit Major and Gileston beach cleans

A team of 25 local volunteers spent their Bank Holiday Sunday cleaning up Llantwit Major and Gileston Beaches.

The regular beach cleans are organised by Cleaner Welsh Coasts - with the whole family invited to take part, whilst social distancing - equipment is supplied, along with prizes for young people taking part.

During Sundays (30th August) clean, 25 bags of rubbish, 6 tyres and 1 fishing net were collected by volunteers across the two beaches.

The next organised beach clean will take place on 19th September, which will be Aberthaw Power stations final sponsored beach clean and is also supported by SAS International and Fonmon Castle.

Those wishing to take part can meet at the Blue Anchor Pub for midday, before heading back to the pub for a well earned drink.

  1. I walked down to Llantwit beach with my litter picker on Saturday evening and collected 3 bags of rubbish from the roadsides. Last night I walked down again and saw umpteen bottles, cans, tissues, wipes, crisp packets, which had all appeared within 24 hours. It's sickening. What is wrong with people?
