Waste & Recycling Christmas 2020: A Guide

 

The Vale of Glamorgan Council has released information on changes to waste and recycling over the Christmas period here in the county.

Within the information released on their website, the Council has confirmed that, once again, there will be a temporary lift on the regular black bag restrictions over the period, from Sunday 27th December to Friday 16th January 2021.

The Council explained the temporary change saying:

"We recognise that we all produce a lot more waste and recycling this time of year, so, from Sunday 27 December 2020 - Friday 15 January 2021 the restriction to 2 black bags per household will not apply."

In their update, the Vale Council also confirmed that there will be a few changes to collection days over the festive period, with collections on both Christmas Day and New Year's Day being rescheduled to December 27th and January 2nd respectively.

Also included in the Council's statement is a handy guide on which festive items can and cannot be recycled at the kerbside. The list is as follows:

  • Food waste
  • Vegetable and fruit peelings 
  • Non-glittery Christmas cards 
  • Cardboard 
  • Mince pie foil trays
  • Clean baking foil
  • Plastic chocolate tubs

  • Brown paper
  • Envelopes
  • Glass bottles and jars

Non-Recyclable

  • Wrapping paper
  • Glittery Christmas cards
  • Polystyrene
  • Soft plastic wrapping
  • Paper napkins
  • Single-use paper plates and cups
  • Tinsel
  • Ribbons and bows 
  • Black plastic chocolate trays 
  • Advent calendar black plastic 
  • Fruit netting e.g. satsuma nets

Finally, dates for Christmas Tree recycling were confirmed within the information, with the Council advising that residents place their tree outside on their black bag collection day during the period between Monday 11th and Friday 22nd January.

Residents are reminded that only real trees can be collected and all decorations must be removed.
