Wizz Air UK has confirmed that its new base at Cardiff Airport will finally start operations in April 2022.
Originally announced in December 2020, the base is set to create 40 new permanent jobs, with a total of nine routes from Cardiff across Europe and seasonal flights to Egypt.
The news comes after the Welsh Government announced that fully vaccinated travellers returning to Wales from amber list countries will not have to quarantine from 19th July onwards, though the Government is still appealing to Welsh travellers to consider holidaying at home rather than abroad.
Owain Jones, Managing Director of Wizz Air UK, said: “This is an extremely exciting time for Wizz Air as we increase our footprint in the UK even further. The creation of our fourth UK base at Cardiff Airport reflects Wizz Air’s continued commitment to serving the UK market and generating economic growth, as we create local jobs, stimulate the tourism and hospitality industries and deliver on our promise of providing affordable, direct flights to exciting holiday destinations.
Cardiff Airport will become the airline's fourth base in the UK, following Luton, Gatwick and Doncaster Sheffield.
The nine routes set to launch from Cardiff airport include resorts such as Alicante, Faro and Tenerife as well as seasonal routes during the summer to Corfu and Palma de Mallorca as well as Lanzarote and Sharm El Sheikh during the winter.
