Half Terms: What's on in the Vale of Glamorgan

With half term fast approaching, we've pulled together some of the best free and low-cost activities taking place in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Amelia Trust Farm

Why not head to Amelia Trust Farm during half term? Whether it's a stroll around to see the Animals and enjoy the new cafe, or experience some of the many events organised by the Farm.

On Monday 24th and Friday 28th, there are opportunities to spend some time with the small animals on the farm. Led by a member of the Animal Care Team you'll be able to hold and stroke some of the animals, whilst asking questions and learning about each.

Spend Sunday 23rd or Saturday 1st March becoming a farmer, spending a full day experiencing life on a Care Farm. Aimed at 8 - 12 year olds, you'll spend the day learning and caring for the animals which call Amelia Trust Farm their home. Tickets are £39 per child or £35 with an annual pass.

The Discotots Party on Thursday 27th February at 11:30 am and 1 pm features feel-good music, disco lights, bubbles and more, suitable for ages 3 - 8 years old.

 

Barry Town Council - St David's Day Weekend

Wrapping up the half-term is the St David's Day weekend, with two events organised by Barry Town Council.

On Saturday 1st March Barry Town Council is running a St David's Day Festival on King Square and Central Park, with live music, activities, stalls, food & drink. The event is free to attend, with many of the activities being free or affordably priced for all.

On Sunday 2nd March, Barry Town Council are running their first 2k Daffodil Dash on Barry Island, supporting the Barry Town Mayor's two chosen charities Vale Food Bank and SHUA. Beach Academy Wales:

Beach Academy Wales is continuing to encourage families to explore the Vale's coastline over half term.

Activities include a Beachcombing Safari on Monday 24th, The Great Eggcase Hunt on Tuesday 25th and Wednesday 26th, Fossil Hunting on Thursday 27th and Friday 28th and Seashore I-Spy on Saturday 1st March.

Dyffryn Gardens:

With the gardens at Dyffryn changing throughout the year. All month the site is holding an interactive spotter trail, designed to help children discover more about nature in winter and have lots of fun outside in the chillier month of February.

There is no extra cost, but normal admission does apply. Simply pick up your bingo sheet from the Welcome Centre on arrival and learn all about the things that happen in the gardens during winter.

Fonmon Castle:

This one is for the fans of Batman, Catwoman, Alfred and the Joker. This Half Term is Gotham Week at Fonmon Castle.

Meter Iaith Bro Morgannwg

Menter Iaith Bro Morgannwg is hosting several free Welsh Language play sessions for reception to year 6 age.

On Monday 24th at Ysgol Penygarth, on Tuesday 25th at Ysgol Gwaun Y Nant, Wednesday 26th at Ysgol Dewi Sant and Thursday 27th at Ysgol Sant Baruc.

Memo Arts Centre:

The Memo Arts Centre has a host of family-friendly events during half-term week, including a number of showings of DreamWorks Animations Dog Man. The film follows a faithful police dog and his human police officer owner who are injured together on the job, a harebrained but life-saving surgery fuses the two of them together and Dog Man is born. Dog Man is sworn to protect and serve — and fetch, sit and roll over!

On Thursday 27th February, WiFi Wars comes to Barry on its 10th Anniversary Tour. It's a live comedy game show suitable for ages 6+, hosted by comedian Steve McNeil and aided by Guinness World-Record-Breaking tech whizz, Rob Sedgebeer.

On Friday 28th February, Polka and Theatr Iolo present Tidy, based on the illustrated book by Emily Gravett.

Penarth Pier Pavilion:

Penarth Pier Pavillion is hosting a range of activities to keep everyone entertained during the half-term week.

Whether you're after a cosy movie day, a playful morning out, or some friendly competition over board games, there’s something for everyone.

With films Inside Out 2, Piece by Piece and Transformers One, alongside Board Games and Stay and Play Sessions. The on-site cafe makes it a perfect treat for the adults too.

South Wales Aviation Museum

Based in an air hangar in St Athan, the Aviation Museum is the perfect place for young ones with a love of planes and helicopters.

Run by a dedicated team of volunteers, the museum will be open on Wednesday 26th February from 10 am to 3 pm, with the last entry at 2:30pm.

South Wales Roller Skating

South Wales Roller Skating is running a number of sessions suitable for all ages and abilities during half term.

On Monday 24th February at Penarth Leisure Centre there's an open session from 5pm - 6pm at £5pp including Skate Hire.

On Saturday 22nd February and 1st March £5 per person sessions, including Skate Hire are taking place at Colcot Leisure Centre.

Vale of Glamorgan Libraries:

Libraries in the Vale of Glamorgan are offering more than just picking up a book this Half-Term.

Barry Library is hosting several activities, including a Bath Bomb workshop on 27th February and an African Drumming workshop on 28th February.

In Penarth, activities focus on Animal Encounters on Monday 24th Feb and St David's Day Dragon Crafts on Wednesday 26th February.

At Llantwit Major Library, there are Family Bath Bomb-making workshops on Tuesday morning, Kesterl Morton Story Telling on Wednesday 26th and Animal Encounters on Thursday 27th of February.

Cowbridge Library is hosting a Lib Balm & Bath Bomb-making session on 25th February, a Family Storytelling Workshop on 26th and St David's Day Crafts on 1st March.
