A unique fitness challenge, pitting athletes against the tide, is coming to Barry Island next month.
Whitmore Bay will host the Red Bull Shore Shift on 14th September.
The Shore Shift is a fitness race which challenges athletes to complete a series of functional fitness workouts, all while the tide is coming in.
Twenty select gyms will race in teams of four (mixed pairs), completing a series of functional fitness workouts, all while the tide is advancing, making the race harder and harder to finish with every passing minute.
The race starts with a 200-300m run to the water marker, followed by a series of five functional workouts (breaks)split by a run to the shore in between each break. These workouts have a coastal-themed twist, including a chipper using a weighted dinghy, synchro efforts using buoys, and a farmer's carry using jerry cans filled with water.
To finish the race, teams must enter the sea and navigate an anchor drag back to the finishing zone. If these workouts don’t sound challenging enough, this all takes place while the tide is quickly advancing.
Red Bull Shore Shift is a free event for all spectators and an invitation only for competitors. Find out more at https://www.redbull.com/gb-en/events/red-bull-shore-shift
