Barry Town Council is currently consulting on its budget for the 2026/27 financial year, with its precept proposed to increase by £5.41 for a Band D Property.
The Council is set to meet on 16th February to agree its budget for the year, with a public consultation launched to gather the views of residents, businesses, and the wider community on the proposed budget, including a suggested increase to the Council Tax precept.
For 2026/27, the Town Council estimates total expenditure at £1,655,216, with income from fees and charges projected at £178,838.
As a result, the draft budget includes a proposed Council Tax precept increase of £5.41 for a Band D Property.

A spokesperson for Barry Town Council said, "While the Council recognises the impact of inflationary pressures, the proposed increase is not solely attributable to inflation. It primarily reflects the need to address the current position of the Council’s reserves, alongside the requirement to fund significant unforeseen but essential works, including urgent maintenance and safety-related activity."
"In addition, the increase takes account of rising staffing costs and the need to ensure the Council is able to meet its ongoing operational responsibilities. Provision has also been made to support the future delivery of key service developments, without reference to individual projects at this stage."
"Overall, the proposed increase is intended to ensure the Council remains financially sustainable and able to continue delivering services effectively to the community."
The consultation will close on Friday, 30th January 2026.
