Jo Eveleigh has been named as the new secretary at Barry Rugby Club.
Jo was the only person nominated for the honorary post, which she has been occupying on an interim basis since June.
Her position will be officially confirmed at the club’s extraordinary general meeting, being held at the Reservoir Field clubhouse on Friday evening.
Jo, who recently relinquished the post of girls’ lead the club, which she held for three years, is also First team manager for the coming season, as well as running one of the junior teams at the club.
Her service at Barry earned a Club Recognition Award from Cardiff Rugby Community Foundation, which was presented by former Wales international Jamie Roberts at Cardiff RFC’s end-of-season awards night.
Jo was informed of the recognition a week before the awards night. “It was a nice surprise, and it was lovely to be part of the players’ awards night,” she said. “There are three Community Awards, so for the club to be picked out again is nice."
“This is the second year in a row we’ve been recognised as a club. Joe Gatt junior won a community award last year.”
At Friday’s EGM, beginning at 7pm. club members will be voting for a new chairman and new treasurer.
The EGM is being held the night before the first pre-season matches at the club. On Saturday, the first XV are hosting League 2 East Pill Harriers, and the youth team hosting Risca. Both matches kick off at 2.30pm at the Reservoir Field.
